The 3-087 spherical ball bearing (2303/B6-05-005) is used in the BMW Isetta front axle to provide a self-aligning bearing for the steering spindle in the steering housing, thereby compensating for slight misalignments. For a sustainable restoration, the raceways and balls should be inspected for pitting, rust, and play, and the bearing should only be installed in clean, dimensionally accurate fits with appropriate lubrication. This restores the original steering precision and durability of the steering gear.
