The primary gear on the secondary shaft (Part No. 2-052) transmits the engine torque to the other gear wheels in the BMW Isetta transmission and significantly determines the gear ratio. During a transmission overhaul as part of a classic car restoration, the gear should be inspected for pitting, worn bearing seats, and tooth flank clearance, and replaced if worn to prevent noise and shifting problems.
